For the last two months men of the 2nd WIRTENBERGISHE Landwehr
Division Recruiting Depot, with headquarters at CHAMPIGNEULLE,
have boon working on the trenches; deopening them and building
deop dugouts capable of housing 50 to 100 men each. about 2000
men are attached to the depot. Two lines of trenches, each line
protected by a belt of wire, have beun built southeast of CHAM-
PIGNEULLES filling up a gap in the KRIEMHILDE from 296.5-287.1
to 297.6-285.5. A new switch line runs from the latter point
to 295.5-285, excepting a gap of some 200 netens'a Hill 182,
just north of ST. JUVIN. Six kilometers south of the KRIEMHILDE,
just south of EXERMONT, an extension of a trench has been made,
running south from 301, 1-280.5 to 299.9-279.1. The extension
is protected by a belt of wire.
For a nonth and a half Pionecrs have been mining the CHEVIERES-
ST. JUVIN road, from 294.9-286.1 to 296.2-285.6.
A new narrow guage is being built north from ST. JUVIN and
connects with the line running south from THENORGUES. This
line would probably have been completed in two weeks.

VIII. ENEMY AERIAL ACTIVITY:
Enemy aerial activity slightly increased over yosterday. A
number of pursuit planes seen all along the front. At 18:30 three
patrols (17 planes), probably chasse machines, were seen in the
region west of the MEUSE.
A few reconnaissance planes reported in the region of the
MOSELLE and east of VERDUN. No deop reconnaissance planes soen.
Hostile balloons wore rather unactive.
IX. MISCELIANEOUS:
(Airplane Photographs)
A number of enemy acrial photographs havo fallen into our hards.
These include several excellent mosaics, which scem to have béen
made through some othor agency than the ordinary plate camora. The
continuity of the roads, railroads and ground forms indicate that the
pictures making up the mosaic were all taken at the same altitude
and at exceedingly short intorvals. Porforations appear
