Program Costs and Typical Productivity Gains

The overall costs of the Marshall Plan Productivity Assistance program to 15 Western
European countries over the ten year period since its inception in 1948 through 1958, when the Productivity
Centers were still functioning, amounted to a total of less than 1.5% of the total of $12 to $13 billion extended
in grants and loans to these nations. The distribution of U.S. funding for productivity assistance to each
country is shown in Table 9.
