fill SECURITY INFORMATION May 26, 1952 (with corrections which DEPT suggested) KOREAN PW QUESTION - Draft UK-India Formula "The United Nations Command are ready to accept any fair and reasonable arrangement for ascertaining the views of [prisoners about returning to their own countries, and accept also that any such arrangement should apply to prisoners held by both sides.7 all prisoners' captured in the Korean conflict about repatriation. The broad principles should be: (A) That as an integral part of the armistice settlement all prisoners should be [set at liberty./released from POW status, and permitted to go to any destination of their own choice available to them. No prisoner should be sent to any destination against his will. (B) That facilities should be offered to all prisoners to return home. (c) That an agreed independent body which may be accompanied by representatives of both sides as observers should be allowed to interview all prisoners who do not take advantage of the facilities to return to their own country. (n) That no compulsion shall be used by either side to influence the prisoners. (B) The results of the enquiry shall be binding on both sides.
