Dr. Enrico Fermi, 1938 Nobel prizewinner in physics and born
in Rome: "Atomic power may be used not only gor purposes of
destruction but probably will prove also an important factor
of progress. It is certainly the hope of the scientists that
peacetime application and wise use of this tremendously powerful
weapon may ulitmately serve to improve human relations."
All three physicists left Italy during Mussolini's rise.

The Pajarito Plateau, site of LASL, is the locale of the
oldest civilization known to North America -- the Pueblo Indian
cliff dwellers. They were the prehistoric cliffdwellers of the
Rito de los Frijoles and Puye.
