HARRY S. TRUMAN INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI June 30, 1960 Dear Martha Ann, Jim and Karl: You do not know how very much your old uncle appreciated your description of the tornado that hit Oskaloosa. I am happy as I can be that all of you were under cover and in a safe place when it hit. While the loss must be terrific and is one that we all hate to have happen to you, we are glad that none of you were hurt. I have not received a letter that I read with more interest than this one of yours of the 18th and I am sorry to have been so long acknowledging it. As you know, I have been to New York and San Francisco since that date and also, have been on the run the rest of the time. I hope you will be able to get everything straightened out and I also hope that you had plenty of insurance. I am glad all of you are well and perhaps I will have an opportunity to see you before long. Sincerely yours, Uncle Harry Mrs. James F. Swoyer, Jr. Oskaloosa Kansas
