(From Notebook 6) CABINET MEETING, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 31, 1948 10:00 THE PRESIDENT NATIONAL ARCHIVER AND RECORDS Asked Lovett what was new in Israeli. SERVICE* LOVETT Sent message to McDonald our representative in Israili - instructing him to convey our protests and to warn the Jews of the British treaty which would bring British troops into conflict if Egyptian borders have been violated. In China Communists are still showing more strength. The indica- tions are that Nanking will capitulate soon. If Communist Govt takes over, U. S. aid should be discontinued. ECA supplies - food & medicine - which have been moved into interior of China will have to go by the boards if Communists take over. It will be difficult to get supplies in ports back on ships. Supplies afloat can be diverted. 10:23
