CABINET MEETING, FEBRUARY 23, 1951 Marshall - absent THENXY Snyder Acheson 11 SERVICE Lovett for Defense Webb for State Foley for Treas GEN BRADLEY Briefed Cabinet on Korea. WEBB Russian propaganda line now includes possible sabotage of defense production in Western Europe. CHAPMAN Testified before House committee on St. Lawrence Seaway yesterday and thinks we have made some headway. BRANNAN Farm commodity price index has gone up some. Wheat and others are now at parity level. Milk is just about to reach parity level which will cause trouble as we will have to face possible consumer increase or consumer subsidies if milk goes above parity at production level. TOBIN Meats in some categories above parity has caused increase in price index at consumer level. Some thought might be given to meat subsidies at production levels to get prices back to parity. WILSON Milk producers are now having some maintenance problem in cans due to shortage of 1808 steel which is in very tight supply. This may get serious unless we can loosen up steel for milk companies.
