NATIONAL ARCHIVES AND RECORDS SERVICE CABINET MEETING, FRIDAY, MAY 4, 1951 11:00 AM All present - COL - Briefed Cabinet on Korea. V. P. Discussed the MacArthur hearing before Armed Svc and Foreign Affairs Committee. Sessions up to now are executive. Republicans have been trying to get hearings open to public - which is cheap politics. WILSON Just returned from Paris and London and conference with Gen Eisen- hower. Finds that France wants increased raw materials to manufacture military items rather than get such items in finished form from U. S. British want increase in supply of machine tools and raw materi- als. Believes that we will be required to double output of machine tools in next year. We will have to divert machine tools from civilian production to meet needs. British and French are screaming for more sulphur molybdenum - copper and tungsten. ACHESON State will work with Wilson to work out program. Paris meetings are proceeding without too much success. Bromyko is acting as usual. British are continuing to export rubber to Russia despite U. S. pro- - tests. SAWYER May have chance of getting St. Lawrence Seaway our of committee. SYMINGTON This is last meeting with Cabinet. 12:15
