(This request came from Senator Eastland's office, and they thought it was with reference to some friend of Senator Umstead whom they wanted to recommend to the President) 11.00 am Mr. Don Carlos Brownell, of Seward, Alaska (This appointment arranged at request of Delegate Bartlett of Alaska, and is outcome of correspondence which Mr. Connelly has had with Bartlett, re the decision of government-owned Alaska Railroad to close Seward as its southern terminus in favor of Whittier, Alaska. Mr. Krug in a memorandum to Mr. Connelly did say however, "For your information, as extensive road program is contemplated in various parts of the Kenai Península, which, if approved, will keep Seward directly linked with Anchorage and other communities of interior Alaska.) 11.15 am Honorable and Mrs. Kimbrough Stone, of Kansas City (Judge Stone asked if he might, for sentimental reasons, present his retirement from U. S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit, to the President, while in Washington. Mrs. Stone asked if she might accompany her husband.) 11.30 am Honorable Josh Lee, former Senator from Okla.
