" My way of dealing with my clients is this: - I have them send me a model or drawing of their Invention, and I carefully look it over and advise them whether such a thing is patentable under the law, and whether it is probably new or old. For this I charge no fee. If int seems to be new and patentable I advise them to send me a fee of $5.00 to have a SEARCH made, and if nothing is found in the Patent Office, in Foreign Reports, or in the Scientific Works like it I so inform the Inventor, and send him blanks and instructions to prepare his Application, and call on him for $15 to pay the first Government Fee, and $5.00 to pay for drawings. If the Invention is a complicated one it will probably take two or more sheets of drawings, in whif ch case the cost will be more. On receipt of the Application and the money, the case is prepared and filed in the Patent Office. It is usually about three months before the case is reached for examination When 'Allowed" I call on the Inventor for the Government Final Fee ( $20) and my fee ($20). Thus you see, my fee depends upon my success I am therefore not going to advise you to file an Application un- less I believe your Invention is patentable. I have co-operative arrangements with the best Patent Solicitors for procuring Foreign Patents, and can procure Patents in any country in the world granting Patents. I respectfully request a consideration of this letter, and should you, or any of your friends, require the assistance of a Patent Solici- tor I shall be pleased to serve you. I call your attention to my circular, inclosed, from which you will see that I attend to Cases on appeal before the U. S. Supreme Court, Claims in the Court of Claims, Litigated Land Cases before the General Land Office, Pensions; and collect all manner of Claims. TRUMAN Respectfully, ARCHIVES "NATIONAL RECORDS AND of ADMIN.' John S Duff v.s.
