DEPARTMENT OF STATE
OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY
WASHINGTON
May 27, 1947
SUMMARY OF TELEGRAMS
EGYPT
Prime Minister Nokrashy has informed Ambassador
Tuck that he has just received the first really
authentic information concerning Communist designs in Egypt.
He asserted that the existence of a Communist executive or-
ganization, which maintains its contacts through the Yugoslav
Legation in Cairo, is now definitely established. He added
that he would not oppose the plans of this organization,
which intends to make trouble in Egypt during the next few
months "with destructive design", to announce in the near
future the formation of an Egyptian Communist Party.
INDIA
Our Consul General in Calcutta quotes one promi-
nent Bengal leader to the effect that a united
India is now "impossible" and that the only question which
remains is whether India would be divided into two or three
areas.
