3319 Alia July 19, 1952 Dear Mr. Holifield: The President has asked me to reply to your letter of July 7, 1952, with which you forwarded a letter to him from Mr. and Mrs. Ray 0. Caukin of Montebello, California. Mr. and Mrs. Caukin request the President to give considera- tion to the case of their daughter, Mrs. Esther Brunauer, who has been discharged from the Department of State as a # security risk, and the case of Dr. Stephen Brunauer, former employee of the Department of the Navy. It is my understanding that Dr. Brunauer was suspended by the Department of the Navy on security grounds on April x 1285 b 10, 1952, and that his resignation was offered and accepted soon thereafter. Concerning Mrs. Brunauer, information is being obtained from the Department of State as to the circum- x20 stances of her separation from the service. After this information has been received, and we have had a chance to study the matter, I shall be glad to advise you further in regard to Mrs. Brunauer. Sincerely yours, sgd + mailed 7/19 CHARLES s.
