204 much March 6, 1948 3' Dear Mr. Slonim: I read with a great deal of interest your letter of the twenty-sixth of February. One of our principal difficulties in getting the Palestine # matter settled in the manner set out in the American x204-13 British Commission on Palestine, and in the manner suggested by the United Nations Commission on the same x 85-BB subject, has been that there are so many people in this country who know more about how the situation can be handled than do those in authority. It has made the situa- tion exceedingly difficult and is not contributing in any manner to its solution, Of course, I appreciate the emotional feeling of you and your friends in regard to this continuing Palestine problem 76-le and I am more than happy to have your viewpoint on the subject. However, the matter is now in the hands of the 85 United Nations and the United States is making every effort to maintain the position of the United Nations Commission, So much loybying and outside interference has been going on in this question that it is almost impossible to get a fair minded approach to the subject. Thanks very much for your communications 967 = U.S. Sincerely yours, HARRY S. TRUMAN x Mr. M. J. Slonim, President St. Louis Council x American Jewish Congress 211 North 7th Street x ben Saint Louis 1, Missouri x PP72659
