Dear Mr. President: The 'ollowingnresolution was passed unanimously at the meeting of the Chester County Medical Society of The Medical Society of the State of Pennsylvania on July 20, 1949. RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Under a system of free enterprise the American medical profession has established the world's highest standard of medical care, thereby helping the United States to become the healthiest major nation in the world; and WHEREAS, The benefits of American medicine are now available to the majority of the people of this country and can be extended to every American through budget-basis, voluntary health insurance; and WHEREAS, The experience of all countries where government has assumed control of medical services has shown that there has been a gradual erosion of free enterprise and a progressive deterioration of medical standards and medical care to the detriment of the health of the people; therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Chester County Medical Society does hereby go on record against any form of compulsory health insurance or any system of political medicine designed for bureaucratic control; and # be it further RESOLVED, That the Chester County Medical Society endorses and urges the rapid expansion of Blue Cross and Blue Shield (Medical Service Association of Pennsylvania) plans in ennsylvania; and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the President of the United States, to our Senators and Representatives now in the Congress of the United States, and that said Senators and Representatives be and are hereby respectfully requested to use every effort at their command to prevent the enactment of legislation advocating compulsory health insurance or any system of political medicine designed for bureaucratic control.
