f/2/27/49 e Post No. 600 10 THE AMERICAN LEGION CHAMPLIN, MINNESOTA 286-A At a regular stated meeting of the American Legion, Post #600, and the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #600, of Champlin, Minnesota, the following resolution was unanimously approved and passed: WHEREAS, The American veteran in two World Wars has defended the American free enterprise system, which has made possible the development in this country of the highest standards of medical care and the finest medical institutions attained by any major country in the world; and, WHEREAS, having experienced the shortcomings of impersonal, assembly-line - medical care inherent in the form of Government controlled medicine necessary in time of war, the veteran un- derstands the dangers of imposing such a system permanently on the entire population; and, WHEREAS, Compulsory Health Insurance would impose an unjust tax on the veteran's paycheck for medical care to which he is now entitled free of charge as a reward for his service to his country; and, # WHEREAS, Compulsory Health Insurance would force a tax of 3% on the income of the employed veteran, rising to a tax of at least 6% within a few years, creating new financial burdens which would increase the costs of necessities of life and lower the standards of living for veterans and other citizens, NOW, THEREFORE, X 64 BE IT RESOLVED, That the Champlin American Legion, Post #600, Dept. of Minnesota; and the Champlin American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #600, Dept. of Minnesota, does hereby go on record against any form of Compulsory Health Insurance or any system of polit- ical medicine designed for National bureaucratic control; That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the President of the United States, to each Senator and Representative from the State of Minnesota, and that said Senators and Representa- tives be and are hereby respectfully requested to use every effort at their command to prevent the enactment of such leg- islation.
