CROSS REFERENCE SHEET
3-B
AS
Name:
SEC. OF INTERIOR
Date: 5/2/50
Organization:
Address:
Regarding: Prosident's memo. saying that the memo. from the Sec. of Interior on oil
im-
ports is most interesting. Calls Secretary's attention to crude oil imports in March
1949. Wishes the Secretary to make survey of situation and inform these oil gentlemen
that their effor ts to put the independent refineries out of business is not going to
be a thing that the people will stand for. The President says he can't see anything
wrong
with importation of crude oil in equal amounts as our exports of the products,
but when they begin flooding the markets with fuel oil, diesel oil, greases
and
things
of that sort, that is evidently a concerted effort on the part of the big companies to
put the little refineries out of business. Asked the Secretary to take a look at it.
Attached is list of figures re the above which were furnished by the Census Bureau,
and
which are not to be released by anyone - May 1, 1950. --Attached, also, is memo. to Dr.
Steelman, May 4th, 1950 saying "To speak to Sec. Chapman about memo. from the President
on oil imports" Penciled note: I Did.
