Dear Miss Jackson:
I have your letter of December tenth,
addressed to the President, in connection with the
civil rights program.
The President's views have been stated so
many times that I am sure there can be little un-
certainty as to his position. He has also stated
that he will present them again to the Congress in
his Messages to the coming session.
It would be contrary to policy for him to
makre a statement or interview for the exclusive use
of an individual publication. When he does express
his views in a public statement or in a Message to
the Congress it is made available to all. I feel
sure you will understand.
Your kind congratulations and expression
of good wishes, I assure you, were appreciated.
Sincerely yours,
CHARLES G. ROSS
Secretary to the President
