OF THE ERIOR UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR THE WHITE HOUSE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY APR 28 1950 WASHINGTON APR 29 8 33 AM '50 RECEIVED My dear Mr. President: On March 15, 1950, the Business Council of the Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Reservation, North Dakota, adopted a resolution setting forth, among other things, that of the 991 adult members of the said Tribes eligible to vote for the acceptance of the provisions of Public Law 437, Eighty-first Congress, First Session, 525 had, on March 5, 1950, voted accept- ance of the Act. The official votes, accompanied by a certified copy of the resolution of the Tribal Business Council, and the original certificate of R. W. Quinn, Superintendent of the Fort Berthold Indian Agency, Elbowoods, North Dakota, substantiating the above number of enrolled adult members of the said Tribes, and of the number of affirmative votes cast by the adult members, have been filed with me as evidence of the acceptance of the Act by the mem- bers of the said Three Affiliated Tribes. Public Law 437 provides that sums totalling $12,605,625 shall be placed to the credit of the Tribes in the Treasury of the United States, as provided for therein, and shall draw interest at the rate of four per centum per annum from the date of the accept- ance, March 5, 1950, until disbursed. Pursuant to a request contained in section 9 of the Tribal Resolution, I enclose a copy of that Resolution. There is also enclosed a copy of the Superintendent's Certificate and of a state- ment made on March 16, 1950, by Carl Whitman, JI., Chairman of the Tribal Business Council, at the time he turned the votes over to me. x I am sending copies of these documents to those officials designated in section 9 of the Resolution.
