Senator Sparkman announced at the joint PressConference of a group of Senators
and Representatives, that a bi-partisan Resolution will be introduced today, in
the Senate and in the House, calling for the establishment of a UN Police Force
under a UN Police Authority. The co-sponsoring Senators are: Aiken (R.) of Ver-
mont, Cain (R.) of Washington, Capehart (R.) of Indiand, Douglas (D.) of Illinois,
Gillette (D) Iowa
Flanders (R.) of Vermont, Hendrickson (R.) of New Jersey, Graham (D.) of North
Carolina, Hill (D.) of Alabama, Hoey (D.) of North Carolina, Humphrey (D.) of
Lehman (D) N.Y.
Minnesota, Mundt (R.) of South Dakota, O'Conor (D.) of Maryland, Smith (R.) of
Maine, Stennis (D.) of Mississippi. In the House, the sponsors are: Ellsworth
(R.) of Oregon, Gwinn (R.) of New York, Hale (R.) of Maine, Hays (D.) of
Arkansas, Herter (R.) of Massachusetts, Judd (R.) of Minnesota, Mansfield (D.)
of M ntana, Marshall (D.) of Minnesota, Nixon (R.) of California, Patterson (R.)
of Connecticut, Priest (D.) of Tennessee, Richards (D.) of South Carolina, Stigler
(D.) of Oklahoma, Stockman (R.) of Oregon.
According to the sponsors, the Resolution comes in response to a rising nation-
wide demand to save the United Nations from the clutches of Malik's veto, and
to save many American lives by organizing under a UN Police Authority the
hundreds of thousands of volunteers throughout the world, who want to join in the
fight against the Communist aggressors, in Korea and elsewhere.
The sponsors believe, that a UN Police Authority should be established, as can
be done, strictly in accordance with the UN Charter, upon the recommendation
of the UN General Assembly, and under Article 51 of the Charter. As a practical
basis the Resolution suggests that the UN Police Authority could consist of
nine delegates -- three from the United States, three from the British Common-
wealth and France, and three collectively elected by the smaller member-states.
