My dear Mr. Robertson:
The President has received your letter
of November seventeenth in further reference to
your desire to talk with him relative to the
Hawaiian and Alaskan situations.
The pressure on the President's time
incident to the convening of the Congress and the
many urgent matters requiring his attention sim-
ply makes it impossible to add to his appointment
list at this time. As of possible interest to
you, however, I am enclosing a copy of the press
release of a letter from the President to the
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior and
Insular Affairs in support of statehood for Alaska
and Hawaii.
I wish also to reiterate that should you
care to submit your proposed discussion in memoran-
dum form, I shall be glad to see that it is made
available to the President.
Very sincerely yours,
MATTHEW J. CONNELLY
Secretary to the President
