Dear Mr. Congressman:
Your letter of October 7, addressed
to the President, has been referred to
me.
I have discussed with the Director
of the Mint the matter of Private Law
831, 79th Congress, Chapter 828, as it
refers to the gold metal to be presented
to General Pershing. This act was passed
shortly before adjournment and Congress
failed to appropriate funds for the
striking of the metal. This, I feel sure,
they will take case of as soon as they
are convened in January. In the mean-
while, I have persuaded the Bureau of the
Mint to go ahead with all preliminary
work so that the metal can be finished
and presented with the least possible de-
lay after the first of January.
Sincerely
HARRY H. VAUGHAN
Major General, U. S. Army
Military Aide to the President
The Honorable
Henry D. Larcade, Jr. X
House of Representatives
Washington, D. C.
