Mr. Warren B. Walsh
Syracuse University Rumor Clinic
Maxwell Hall
Syracuse, New York
Dear Mr. Walsh:
In reply to your letter of November 2, citing
two specific rumors, I should like to point out that the
Office of War Information does not feel that it can, except
in very rare cases, deny specific rumors. We are very glad
to include these rumors in our current rumor analysis, and
appreciate your sending them in.
When the material for rumor clinics and the gener-
al statement on rumors is released, you will find a distinc-
tion is made between local and non-local rumors. The two
that you cited represent non-local rumors from the point
of view of Syracuse, and it is suggested that local rumor
control projects refer this type of rumor to the OWI, con-
fining their community activities to the "local rumors"
Details on this, however, will be seen in the
material which will be sent in the very near future.
Very truly yours,
Eugene Katz
