My dear Mr. and Mrs. Hamrick:
While the President is exceedingly
grateful to your young sons for their kind
thought of him, I regret to have to inform
you that he does not at this time have any
facilities for caring for pets. As you know,
the White House is being repaired and during
this period the President and his family are
residing at the Blair House.
Unhappily, it would not be possible

to keep the little pup there and, knowing that
your boys must be fond of hin even at this

young age, we are venturing to reship the
little dog to you tomorrow. In this way, he
will be sure to find a good home of your own
choosing.
With all good wishes to you and your
three young sons, I am
Very sincerely yours,
WILLIAM D. HASSETT
Secretary to the President
Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Hamrick,
Thomasville,
