Menorandum for Mr. Connelly attaching draft of letter which he recommends the
President send to the Governors of the several States and Territories inviting them
to attend the Conference on Industria] Safety, to be held March 23, 24 and 25 , 1949,
in Mashington, D. C. to develop ways and means to cope with the traffic accident pro
blem and to combat the staggering increase in loss of life and destruction of pro-
perty from preventable fires as a joint responsibility of Federal and State Govern-
ments to reduce industrial accident casualties. On 1/25/49 lir. Connelly sent memo
to the Secretary of Labor re above stating the President has today addressed letters
to the Governors of the Several States, the Governors of Havaii, Pucrto Rico, Virgir
Islands, Alaska and the President of the Board of Comissioners of the District of
Columbia. Copy of letter attached. Letters addressed to the following Governors:
