7. P.P.F. 1151 May 5, 1952 Dear Mr. Howe: I understand that the BURLINGTON FREE PRESS is celebrating its 125th anniversary on June seventh. I further understand that the FREE PRESS has served Vermont well, keeping its Green Mountain readers well-informed not only on local but on national and international affairs. That is good. An in- formed ci tizenry is essential if our country is to continue strong and healthy. I have, as you know, a personal interest in Burlington 244 and in Vermont through my Secretary, Bill Hassett of Northfield, who worked on your paper some years ago. He has just about PP45488 convinced me that Vermont is one of the most beautiful states in the Union. I hope to visit it some day to see for myself. Ris Bill is the most wonderful Yankee I know - one of the finest people there is. During his years of distinguished service in Washington as a newspaperman and here in the White House he has been a credit to your paper and your state. Very sincerely yours, (Sgd) HARRY S.
