HUNTER, Clarence E.,
Overland Park, Kansas.
1170
June 4, 1945.
Wrote to the President stating that recently while thumbing through the
pages
of
his
Class Annual looking for a picture of a class mate, he found a semi-monthly Gleam, dated
3/11/24, in which was published a note written to their Alumni Editor, Miss Sybil
Burris,
by Harry Truman, 1901. Sends this issue of the Gleam so that President may have it for
his Scrap Book. Writer was Class President, 1924, William Chrisman High School. 6/14/45
the President replied: "Memories of happy high school days in Independence at the turn of
the century are revived by your letter of June fourth, with which you forwarded that copy
of THE GLEAM, yellowed with age. All I can say is that I love the old school today
with
an affection that has deepened with the years which have passed since I wrote
to
Sybil
Burris
one and twenty years ago. You have made me very happy. Please accept my heart-
felt thanks."
