Writes the President that the Secretaries of War, Navy and Treasury and the officers
of the National Rifle Ags'n have authorize the oreation of a special joint committee
to promote public safetyin the hendling of way trophies. Tella of the number of ascidents
resulting from the souvenira of war and worse still the falling into the hands of some
oriminal these instruments of that the President will publicly endorse
the objective of this Comnittees--Attached is photostatic gopy of statement mede by the
Committee in which reference is made fact that if a pistol or rifle designed to fire more
then one shot with each pull of the trigger, it should be talon to the nearest Alochol
Tax

Revenue,
as
required
by
the
National
Firearms
Acte==Attached is suggested statement to be made by the Presi-
dent. This draft for the President to use is signed HST but not release was
given out on this on July 25the-=The President, July 24th, wrote to Henry Schnoider, July
24th extending best wishes to the many working groups representing the War, Navy and the
Treasury
Departments
and
the
National
Rifle
Association.
Said
the
effort
is
a
most
worthy
one and should result in the saving of thousands of lives and millions of dollars.
The President, July 24th, wrote to C. B. Lister, Sec. Troas. of the National Rifle Ass'n,
and
thanked
him
and
his
Association
for
the
War
Trophy
Safety
Program
that
they
were
now
launching in cooperation with the War, Nevy and Treasury Depertments. Said the part that
is taken by this Association in this public service should be a asuse of intense
satis-
faction to all its members.
