THE KANSAS GITY STAR May 5, 1949 The President of the United States Washington, D. C. Dear Mr. President: Imman A mural about 15' X 30' in size depicting the dedication of the 88 Liberty Memorial site in November, 1921 is being painted by the famous muralist Daniel MacMorris. This project was authorized two years ago by the trustees ofKthe Liberty Memorial Association. The mural will be placed on the west wall of Memory Hall sometime next November. It shows the Union Station in the background and large figures of the famous Allied war leaders of 1917-18. It will also show a number of Kansas Citians in the crowd including you and me. Of course, we were trench- workers at that time, working on various American Legion Convention committees handling the great 1921 convention and do not show up in the picture as prominently as the "Big Brass", but we are there, never- theless. I have been instructed to write you to see if you can come here to make the main speech on the day of the dedication. We would like to dedicate the mural on Armistice Day, but if you can't make it on that day, another date near then would be satisfactory. If it could be done on Armistice Day, it would fit in perfectly with our annual parade which arrives at the Memorial at 11 A. M. We all know your time away from Washington is limited and that is the reason for writing you this far in advance. I will be in Washington May 20-21 to attend the Gridiron dinner and will be most happy if I could call on you for a few minutes to explain the matter in further detail. Hoping to hear from you, I remain sincerely Your friend, Steamboat Arthur C. Wahlstedt, President Liberty Memorial Association # ACW : TH x Invitation
