Ltr to the President transmitting, by direction of the House of
Representatives, for comunication to the Government of Grest Britain, the
Resolution
adopted by the House of Representatives, expressing its profound sorrow upon learning
of the death of His Majesty King George VI. ------ Mr. Hassett referred abova to Hon.
John F. Simons, Unief of Protocol, Department of° State, 2/29/52, requesting draft of
message of transnittal to the Government of Great Britain. Mr. Simmona sant memo
to Mr. liassett, 3/3/52, enclosing suggested ltr of transmittal for the President's
signature. Said he's retaining the Resolution in his office and upan receipt of the
Prosideut's ltr of transmittal will forward the Resolution and the letter to London for
delivery. ---- On 3/4/52, the Prosident wrote Her Hajesty Queen Elizabeth II, (Your
Majesty) stating that at the request of the House of Representatives of the United
States, he's sending copy of the Resolution addressed to the British Government express-
ing profound sorrow at the death of His lajesty King George VI. Said his own deepest
sympathy accompanies this Resolution. lr. Hassett sent memo to lir. Simmons, 3/5/52,
transmitting above ltr for transmittal with the Resolution to London for delivery.
John F. Chief of Protocol, Dept. of State, sent memo to Mr.
Hassett, 5/15/52, enclosing ltr addressed to the President by Her Majesty Queen
Elizabeth II, May 7, 1952, thanking him for his kindness in forwarding the Resolutions
and for his personal sympathy. -- attached is copy of ltr sont to Hon. Alben W. Barkcley
by Jack K. NoFall, Assistant Secretary, 4/15/52, transmitting expressions of gratitude
and appreciation for the messages of sympathy and cendolence expressed by the United
States Sonate on the oceasion of the death of King George VI, from Anthony Eden on behalf
of the Government of the United Kingdom, dated 2/29/52, from Mahmud Husain to His
Excellency, Avra M. Warren, American Ambassador to Karechi, dated 2/28/52, and to The
American Embassy, New Delhi, 2/20/52, on behalf of the Government of India. - also
attached is copy of ltr to Hon. Sam Raybum, Speaker of the liouse of Repr esentatives,
from Jack K, MeFall, 4/15/52, transmitting copy of message from Anthony Eden.
On 5/22/52, the President wrote Hon. Alben W. Barkley, transmitting copy of the ltr he
received from Hor Majesty Queon Elizabeth II. --- also wrote Hon. Sam Rayburn, 5/22/52,
transmitting co py of Her Majesty' a letter.
Hen. Alben W. Barkley wrote the President,
5/26/52, thanking him for transmitting copy of the ltr, which he states will be brought
to the attention of the Senate.
