Regarding: Letter to Mr. Connelly concerning the book "Mistah Jolson", which he
has been asked to present to the President by George D. West of House-warven,
Publishers, of Hollywood, California. The book was written by Harry Jolson,
brother of the late AI Jolson. Says Harry Jolson is trying to sell the country
on the idea of getting behind "Dorchester Day", which was a day set aside by
Congress in memory of the Four Chaplains who lost their lives in World War II.
Writer feels that a more prominent person should present the book to the Presi-
dent. Mr. Connelly acknowledged (Vear Harry) 4/29/52 suggesting he send the
book to him and he will see that the President receives it.
Letter to Mr. Connelly, 4/30/52 from Harry W. Flannery, Editor,
AFL News-Reporter, forwarding volume of "Mistah Jolson", under separate cover,
as requested in his letter of 4/29/52. Suggests that Theresa Goodemake pre-
sentation of the book. She is th e wife of the Jewish Chaplain who. lost his
life in World War II.--Memo for Mr. Short, 5/1/52 from Mr. Connelly inquiring
if he thinks the President should send a personal note of thanks to Mr. Jolson
for the book. (Harry Jolson) On 5/5/52 Mr. Connelly wrote to Mr. Flannery
(dear Harry) stating he has given the book to the President and believes he will
acknowledge the gift personally with a letter to Harry Jolson.----On 5/5/52
the
President wrote to Harry Jolson (Dear Mr. Jolson) thanking him for the book,
stating he especially appreciates the inscription. President has the book.
Letter to Mr. Connelly, 5/12/52 from George D. West, Sales Pirector,
House-Warven Publishers, thanking him for his help in the presentation of the
special copy of "Mistah Jolson" to the President.
