(Page 2) and so far as the poarch is concerned, I dont think you will enjoy it longer than 1948, and it may not suit your successor. I have been a Democrat all my life, and my father before me, but you have departed from the straight and narrow way the Democrats have traveled since the days of Thomas Jefferson, I deplore the change that has been wrought more than I can tell, yet We have stood by and have taken more than any people in the world would have taken. We have just passed through a devestating war, that has taken the lives of many thousands of our buys ( the finest we had) and are today bungling the peace for the sake of a political Office, which belong to the people. I remind you that we the South have the balance of power, and if we have to use it to get what we want VIZ, our States rights, we will surprise you Yes I have a son that lies burried in a foreign land for the sake of SO called Democracy, and what have we got. When you had to have soldiers to feed this war, where did you get the best soldiers in the world? You got them here in the South, the fought they died, and thousands of them returned with broken bodies, and blind, some with no hands, or legs, and yet this is what we get in return for their sacrifice. It looks as if they have died and suffered in vain, with no hope of getting a square deal from our National set up. I feel better that I have got this off my chest, and remember we want a square deal or no deal at all. We want less Comunism in America, and I think we have about enough to do if we take care of our own Comunist, to say nothing of European Comunist. What we send to Europe let it be in charge of the right parties for their supervision, and quit calling it buying off Comunism. The more unrestricted supplies we send to Europe, the more black market, and the more Comunist we will have over there. Yours for a square deal for the South. I am faithfully Yours. S. L.
