- 3 - Branch Yeshivoth have been founded in several cities throughout the United States. In Canada, the Lubavitcher Yeshivah of Montreal now has an enrollment of more than 650 students and is the largest institution of its kind in the Dominion, where it is an important factor for Judaism and Jewish Learning. Lubavitcher Yeshivoth in the State of Israel are located in the cities of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Lydda as well as in the village of Kfar Chabad. An elementary school has also been established in the new Lubavitcher colony of Kfar Chabad. This settlement was founded in the State of Israel over a year ago for the many refugee families that have escaped from the Soviet Union where they suffered persecution on account of their observance of Judaism, and now have found a safe haven in Israel to live as Jews. Our organization is indeed proud of its part in establishing this first Lubavitcher agricultural colony in Israel with the cooperation of the Jewish Agency and the Government of Israel. Last but not least, the large and important Lubavitcher Yeshivah and Rabbinical Seminary near Paris in France, is serving the religious needs not only of the Jews of France but also of Western Europe. It is an important influence in the reconstruction of Jewish religious life in Europe. The sudden passing of the Lubavitcher Rabbi of blessed memory on the 10th of Shevat 5710 (Jan. 28, 1950) overwhelmed the administration and the students of the United Lubavitcher Yeshivoth. Each and every student was affected by his passing, for to many of them the Lubavitcher Rabbi had been like a father and had taken a personal interest in their welfare and inspired them all with his indomitable Jewish spirit. The administration of the UNITED LUBAVITCHER YESHIVOTH is deeply consçious of the great responsibility which now rests upon its shoulders It recognizes that the path the late Lubavitcher Rabbi of blessed memory trod is the proper one, namely, to augment Yeshivoth and to ever widen the scope and activity of this network of Lubavitcher Yeshivoth through the continuous founding of such institutions in this country and other lands. Such was the great and adrent ambition of the late Lubavitcher Rabbi to his very last day. The UNITED LUBAVITCHER YESHIVOTH are making young American Jews proud of their great heritage, anxious to continue the study of Torah and Jewish Knowledge, and to fit themselves for service and participa- tion in the life of our various Jewish communities everywhere. Individual Jews as well as congregations and communities all over the country have rallied to the support of these UNITED LUBAVITCHER YESHIVOTH. Scholarships have been established for needy students, tablets have been erected in honor of special events or in memory of a loved one. Many Jews follow that ancient and noble Jewish tradition and remember the UNITED LUBAVITCHER YESHIVOTH when they write their Wills and thus make the cause of Torah the object of their generosity after their lifetime. The Jews of America are not content in only praising these outstanding institutions of Torah, but will continue to give adequate expression and appreciation to their understanding of the great work of the UNITED LUBAVITCHER YESHIVOTH through their loyal and active support. * UNITED LUBAVITCHER YESHIVOTH BEDFORD AVENUE CORNER DEAN STREET BROOKLYN 16, N.
