July 19, 1950
The President of the United States
The White House
Washington, D. C.
My dear Mr. President:
You're asking for 10 billion dollars for arms to kill. I'm
opposed to this unless we duplicate this money now with 10
billion dollars for help to Southern & Northern Korea when
we have won the war.
All monies spent for war must be duplicated by monies spent
to eliminate war by your Point Four Program.
20 billion dollars appropriations won't break us for our
technological strength can easily manufacture all things
material things of life. Our only loss would be in insign-
ificant laying in bank of 20 billion useless dollars.
Your quote Wed. July 19 was to preserve our freedom "No matter
what the cost". Freedom is obtained by not only giving men
politcal freedom but also economic security. Life expectancy
in Korea is around 27 years of age. This means many millions
of people starve to death. People fight to eliminate the
starving of their families. Strong armies will never maintain
peace if economic security is not offered the individuad.
Sincerely,
Enling Rohde.
