204671 February Springfield, 6, 1951. Ramsey Mo.
Mr. Harry S. Truman,
President of the United States,
Washington, D. C.
Dear Sir:
It was with a great deal of disgust that I read the
article in the newspapers telling of your ordering BEER
to be substituted for "tea" at the parties for our boys
who were wounded in Korea. Surely you are familiar
with the evil effects of beer and other intoxicating
drinks. You, as president of the United States, should
set a decent example before the people of our beloved
country, but it can't be done by encouraging people to
drink.
I am enclosing a "Commitment" card for your use. The
card needs no explanation. If you will sign this card
and then follow through you will be setting an example
that others can safely follow.
The problem of drink is one of the greatest problems
in our country as you well know. How it can be endorsed
by and indulged in by the President of the United States
of America is beyond my comprehension,
Sincerely,
John John w.Vertz Vertz
Rev. John W. Vertz.
