Dear Sir:--
Having read your address before congress today,
I wish to compliment you on this address, as 1 feel that
if your ideas are carried out, it will be the best thing
for our country that has been proposed during the past
century.
1 think, though, that one important factor
in the idea was not stressed, and that is the beneficial
training those young men will get. AS every older person
knows, when a young lad gets to be about 18 years old, he
thinks that he wiser than his parents and with that in
mind, he does things that he should not. Also, in most
cases, these young people have never been away from home
and among strangers. The training of one year in service
will give them the training they need. After that year,
they will be better fitted for the future, whether it is
continuing their education, or going out to work, and
once more, I think that you are to be congratulated in
taking the stand that you have. 1 would, however, suggest,
that this kind of training also be given to the girls for
the same reasons.
I have talked with a great many people -
working men and business men both, and most of them
are inclined to believe the same way 1 do. My ideas
along these lines may not mean much to you, but 1
feel that you should know that many of us are with you
to the fullest extent.
With best wishes, 1 beg to be,
Humbly yours,
