259-4th St. Fond du Lac, Wis October 23, 1945 The President of the United States P.P.F. to Cong 200 Washington, D. C, Dear President Truman; 10.23.45 Pro E I have just listened to your speech to the House of Rep on the subject of Military service-, Of course I am interested in anything that has to do with this as I am still in the Army, and I feel that no matter what is said now" We must protect this country". The more a person has sacrificed or given up in this 2nd World War makes him realize this more, Certainly those of us who have families and are getting up in years want security more than anything else, Your personal Championship of this phase of the defense of the country is to be commended: I certainly wish you was ld get to work on getting the fathers, especially the pre-Pearl Harbor, out of the Army---and soon, There is a bill, S. 1410, To provide for the release of all fathers from the armed forces, in the Military Affairs Committee. Do you know what is happening to the many families who are still separated». I think I speak for a large group: I am 37 years old, have 21 months service (13 in the ETO), have 45 points have a wife and one boy, Why don't you champion the release of older family men--where do you think we can get a job after this is all over? The Army and Navy don't want us.. Respectfully yours, Malcolm J. Estrem 36839809 Hq, Rec Bn, Camp Sibert, Alag
