I think we, as Americans, place too much emphacise on the common man, and not enough on the uncommon man. The uncommon man is our hope---our future. If it were not for the uncommon men who have made all our achievments we would still be living in caves. Let's give this fellow an education if he wants it. Let's make him exempt from a herd of humanity; regimentet humanity; He wants to make something of himself, and of his country. Let's listen to this fellow, and use our own common sense. A month this fellow spends in the classroom is worht ten times more to this conntry than a year he spends marching rank and file. If the war was still on, I would not hesitate, but would enlist as soon as I was out of high school.
