SAINT JOHN'S CHURCH SAINT PAUL'S CHURCH HIGH AND PRICE STREETS GLASGOW AND LINDEN STREETS POTTSTOWN, PA. STOWE, PA. Saint John's - Saint Paul's Charge EVANGELICAL AND REFORMED CHURCH GILBERT J. BarthoLOmEW, PASTOR THE PARSONAGE Message 10/23 "B" P.P.F. 200 1/2/19 1046 HIGH STREET POTTSTOWN, PA. October 27, 1945 The President, The White House, Washington, D.C. con Dear Mr. President, It is with a sense of deep disappointment that many of us re- ceived your latest words on Peacetime Conscription - for, whatever name it has, your program amounts to that. I can see all these proposals for universal peacetime military training as instruments in the hands of military nationalists and power politicians. They threaten our American traditions; they are not in harmony, and do not agree, with the spirit or the letter of the United Nations Charter. Conscription, universal military training, call it what you may, is not Christian, nor American, nor sensible. I should, therefore, like to render my protest to what is proposed by your administration. Respectfully yours,
