Dear Justice Douglas:
I can't tell you how very much I appreciated
your good letter of February tventy-third,
nor hotr much I appreciated the interview
which I had with you on the ship Saturday
night.
I think you have made the best decision,
although nothing in the world would have
pleased me more than to have you a member
of the official family. I can see, however,
the necessity for maintaining the Court in
tact.
I hope you will remember that I expect to
discuss a great many matters with you, which
I believe will be a great asset to ne.
Sincerely yours,
HARRY S. TRUMAN
Honorable Willian 0. Douglas
Justice of the Suptene Court
Tashington, D. C.
