and Personal BE April 25, 1952 Dear Tom: I was highly pleased with your good letter of the twenty-first. I understand that there has been quite a movement on foot out in Missouri to pat me bazk in the Senate but I just don't think it is the proper thing for me to do at this time for the simple reason that the Office of the President is such a powerlul one, politically and otherwise, that it would hardly be fair for me to take advantage of that to obtain my seat back in the Senate wisk so I've called off the dogs and told the boys I can't do it. I am sure you will have the unanimous support of the Democrats in 1956 when your term comes up again. Y ou have been doing a grand job. I believe our trip to the Missouri River flood area will get some results. I've had a great many letters from those who attended the conference and every- one of them feel that a lot of good was accomplished. I've also had letters from all the Governors express- ing appreciation of the Federal Government in meet- ing the situation. Sincerely yours, HARRY S. TRUMAN Honorable Thomas C. Hennings, Jr. United States Senate Washington, D. C.
