Dear Tom:
This is to acknowledge receipt of your letter of
the nineteenth regarding the veterans facilities
at Springfield.
Carl Gray has been trying his best to arrange
things for the best interest of the veterans and
at the same time save the Government a little
money. I think if you will talk with him about
this situation you will find out just exactly why
it was done.
As you know, I've been vitally interested in the
veterans program in Missouri and would never
agree on anything that was not for the best inter-
est of the veteran.
I wish you would talk to Carl Gray about this,
before you come to a final conclusion. I don't
know anything about the details and have not gone
into the matter at all because it has not been up
to me as President.
