MEMORANDUM FOR: Robert P. Patterson

ARCHINES GERVIOZ* RECORDA AND OTHER
the
I instructed the Military and Naval Aides
to discuss with you the Military Reception,
which Mrs. Truman and I are giving next
month, with the view to keeping the number
on a reasonable basis.
Should we invite everyone who is entitled
to come it is estimated that more than five
thousand peoplé would be at the Reception.
It is almost impossible for us to shake hands
with that many people in one evening. There-
fore, 'for this Reception we would like very
nuch to keep the number within fifteen hundred,
if possible.
I'11 appreciate it very much if you will give
the two Aides your cooperation in working this
out so no one will have his feelings hurt.
