BERVICS"
Dear John:
I read your speech in the Record of August
thirty-first, regarding the General MacArthur
episode" with a great deal of interest. I think
you really drove your point home in good shape.
If you will remember, General MacArthur was
made Allied Commander of the Occupation
Forces in Japan by me, at which time I forced
an agreement out of the Russians to accept him
in that position.
His latest appointment, Commander-in- - Chief,
United Nations Command, was made by me at
the suggestion of the United Nations. The United
Nations didn't suggest him - they suggested to me
that I appoint the Allied Commander and 1 appointed
MacArthur.
Sincerely yours,
AAMRY Sa
Honorable John W. . McCormack
