In accordance with radio request from me and letter
forwerded to Griswold at Rome, chief of AMAG and party
debs.ked from "INDEPENDENCE" at Italian capital and
arrived hore separately at 1730 GMT on my Military
Atteche's plane specially sent over for purpose.
Pross and Greek Govt informed Rome stop necessary for
cousultations re forvarding supplies to Greece. Real
reason however was widespread adverse comment super-
stitious Greeks on evil omen of simultaneous arrival
AMAG chief with corpse and exploitation this aspect
of matter by Communists.
Prime Minister expressed himself much relieved by my
action, and handsome reception given Grisvold at
airfield vas unmixed with funeral pomp accorded
"INDEPENDENCE* arrival.
