Stuart Will Recommend Recognition of Chinese Communist Regime
Special to the AFP
Shanghai, June 15 -- U. S. Ambassador to China, Mr. Stuart,
visited Shanghai on the 15th of June and indicated at a Yenching Uni-
versity Alumni meeting that he "intends to advise the United States
Government to recognize the Chinese Communist Government if and when
it is established". Mr. Stuart further stated:
"I am optimistic about the future of China. I am going back
to the United States to submit a frank report on the present situation
in China. It seems to me that all Chinese intelligentsia, liberals and
Christians should support the new regime so that the Chinese Communist
authority may adopt a moderate policy".
Mr. Stuart will go back to Nanking first and then will leave
for the United States at the latter part of June or the early in July.
