FOR THE PRESIDENT AND THE SECRETARY
At porsonal invitation of Prime Ministor Bonomi I
attended today formal convocation of Academic Senato of
Univorsity of Rome which had been especially assombled for
purpose of conferring honorary degroo of Doctor of Eco-
nomics and Commercial Sciences upon mc. Thero wore
sovoral addresses principal ones being by Roctor of Uni-
vorsity Dean of Faculty the Prime Minister c.nd the Minister
of Education. Texts will be submitted by mail, Reforences
to Prosident Truman and late President Roosevolt by Prime
Ministor Bonomi the Rector of University and other orators
were received with groatest enthusiasm and applause.
Assembly included chiofs of Diplomatic Corps both to Italy
and Holy Seo Italian Cabinet and over throe thousand
guests. There being no adequate time to draft a propared
response in advance I quote below substance of my im
promptu remarks "It is a rare privelege to be chosen by
