September 10, 1946 SECOND ELOOR All rugs have been cleaned, and are now in place in the rooms. All drapes have been cleaned and have been rehung. Canopies on two beds have been cleaned and replaced. All venetian blinds have been cleaned and rehung. All slip covers have been cleaned and replaced on the furniture. Several tables and chairs have been refinished. All windows have been cleaned and all floors cleaned and waxed. Several lamp shades have been washed. Ceiling of the corridor has been painted. A new wall to wall carpet has been laid in Mrs. Truman's bedroom. A new rug (removed from Mrs. Truman's bedroom) has been placed in Mrs. Truman's office. A new glass shower stall has been installed in the President's bathroom. Material for new slip cover in Lincoln Room has been received - Completion date: Bookcases have been removed from the Lincoln Room. Sept. 25 The drapes in the President's Study are in bad condition, and are terribly faded. The Possibility of having these drapes dyed was gone into, and it was determined that a satisfactory job could not be done. Replacement with new drapes awaits Mrs. Truman's approval. There remains only several minor things to be done; therefore, the entire Second Floor is ready for occupancy. TRENAN FIRST FLOOR and Two new crystal chandeliers have been hung in the Main Corridor. Barpet from the Main Corridor has been sent to the cleaners. Return date: September 20th Carpet and drapes will be installed in the Grand Staircase, and the walls painted. Completion date: October lst. All woodwork in the Red, Blue and East Rooms is being painted. Completion date: September 25th Rugs from the State Dining Room and Red Parlor have been sent to the cleaners. Return date: September 20th All windows and venetian blinds are being washed. Completion date: October lst Two sofa cushions in Red Parlor will be recovered in Blue. Completion date: All drapes have been sent to the cleaners. Oct. lst Return date: September 25th. Seven chair cushions and small sofa in Red Parlor to be recovered in especially woven material. Material will be ready in from 30 to 60 days.
