My dear Mr. President:
Your letter of January 30th, in which you accepted our
suggestion for the plastic floor, was gratefully received. I am
sure this floor will be more satisfactory than any tile floor.
Since the awnings that hang from the balcony are an inte-
gral part of the scheme, and will assume real importance in the
final public judgment, I want to be sure that the material, design
and operation of these awnings are beyond criticism. I have been
at great pains to investigate material manufacturers, awning-makers,
and ail-makers. Mr. Ratsey, who designed and installed the awnings
on your yacht, has been particularly helpful in indicating some of
the pitfalls to be avoided. Before the contract is let, I should
value an opportunity to explain what we propose. When I have
gathered together all the information and samples I will call
Mr. Connally for an appointment.
I note what you said in your letter about the plastic floor
and the necessity of having it installed as soon as conditions permit.
I have written the manufacturers to make sure that they will be on the
job whenever it is possible to do the work, and we have just received
