EDWARD F. NEILD Texas EASTERN BUILDING SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA 13 April 1949 Dear Mr. President: I am sure that the following thought in connection with the reconstruc- tion of the White House is not new to you and it is probable that it cannot be con- sidered, but 1 wish to present it for what it may be worth. After study of the conditions which are involved and the results which can be achieved, it is my opinion that the best solution would be the erection of a modern residence for the President, separate from the White House, and that the latter be restored to its original plan, insofar as possible, for use as an historical monument or for other suitable purpose. With very best wishes, I am TROMAN Sincerely, age ARRECOROS Ed SERVICE' Es Edward F. Neild EFN/1s The Honorable Harry S. Truman President of the United States The White House Washington, D. C.
