RICHARD E. DOUGHERTY
October 3, 1949
Hon. Harry S. Truman
President
United States of America
The White House
Washington, D.C.
My dear Mr. President:
Upon my return to the office, after the
meeting of the Commission in Washington on September
30th, I am hastening to respond to your memorandum
of September 23rd, enclosing copy of memorandum of
the same date to Mr. Delano concerning the State stair-
way in the White House.
Mr. Orr spent the afternoon of Thursday,
September 29th, in discussion of the subject with Mr.
Delano, and he has further discussed it with Mr. Win-
slow. It was considered at great length at the meet-
ing of the Commission on September 30th, and Senator
McKellar recessed the Commission to make a direct in-
spection.
We have all been very much impressed with
the force of your conclusions, and I am confident that
a solution will be developed which will be satisfactory
to you.
With warmest personal regards, I remain
Very respectfully and sincerely yours,
